A member of one of most popular country music's bands John Driskell Hopkins announced Friday that he has been diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis).

He is a founding member, songwriter, and bassist for Zac Brown Band. Friday he made an announcment for fans and said that he has slow-progressing symptoms identified by neurologists as ALS.

"Over the past several years, I've noticed some balance issues and some stiffness in my hands. After careful analysis by some of the country's top neurologists, I have been diagnosed with ALS," said Hopkins, 51.

"God willing, I plan to be rocking with these amazing people for many years to come," he said, PEOPLE reports.
