'It was a big mistake': designer Bob Mackie criticized Kim Kardashian's Marilyn Monroe dress
Legendary designer Bob Mackie will not be keeping up with the Kardashians. He told he wasn’t impressed with celebrety’s going out wearing Marilyn Monroe’s iconic 1962 Jean Louis gown to the 2022 Met Gala.
“I thought it was a big mistake. [Marilyn] was a goddess. A crazy goddess, but a goddess. She was just fabulous. Nobody photographs like that. And it was done for her. It was designed for her. Nobody else should be seen in that dress,” he said.
For Mackie, his objections are more than just a personal preference. Early on in his career, Mackie worked as an assistant to Jean Louis. At age 23, Bob drew the original sketch for the gown, according to Entertainment Weekly.
