Comedy clubs are stepping up security after Chris Rock was slapped at the 2022 Oscars. According to The Hollywood Reporter, venues across the country are increasing the number of security guards and installing metal detectors.

Institutions fear that after the incident with Chris Rock, Will Smith may have imitators. The owner of the New York Comedy Cellar Noam Dworman said that this had never happened on the show before.

“We’ve had audience members offended at personal jokes and who have had tiffs over the years, but very, very rarely have they turned physical,” he added.
