Gone is the era: last public payphone removed in New York
Don’t call me, maybe.
The last public payphone booth is officially unplugged in New York city. Officials removed the historic gem Monday morning – located on 7th Ave. and 50th St. in Midtown Manhattan – and it was truly the last of its kind.
This marks the end of the New York City public payphone era. The city started removing thousands of payphones off the streets, across all five boroughs back in 2015 and switched them out for public Wi-Fi hotspots, TMZ reports.
Well, no one else will ask for a penny to call.
