The actor was a victim of throat cancer.

Val Kilmer used AI technology to speak in Top Gun: Maverick. The actor lost his voice after throat cancer, so he could not speak in the sequel to the legendary war pilot film.

In Top Gun: Maverick, Kilmer, 62, returned to his role as his character from the original 1986 film, Tom "Iceman" Kazanski. He suffered throat cancer in 2014. Unfortunately, his ability to speak did not return to him.

In the 2022 film, he plays an admiral, Insider writes.
