There are several traditions concerning bowing.

Kate Middleton and Prince William, according to sources, plan to abandon the tradition of bowing to members of the royal family in the future. Experts told how traditions demand it now.

In fact, the royal family cannot force anyone to bow. Their website says: "there are no mandatory rules of conduct when meeting the queen or a member of the royal family." But the "traditional forms of greeting are also indicated there."

It is suggested to bow in the neck or make a small curtsy when meeting with a member of the royal family.

Children in the royal family begin to bow from the age of 5. In particular, of Prince Charles' grandchildren, only Prince George and Princess Charlotte are old enough to bow to the queen, per Cosmo.
